I recently went on the Potent Brew Podcast which is hosted by the talented Anthony and Nick who have a great show which covers a ton of different subjects which they record in South Philly. We had a great time discussing comics, religion, nutrition, scrapple and many other topics. While on the show I announced that I will be doing a Kickstarter for Monsters of MMA #3 in September and will be posting a bunch of stuff for it in the next couple months to promote it.

Big win a couple nights ago at Bellator with Balance Studios affiliates William Martinez and Sam Oropeza! William Martinez is a BJJ black belt and had a great knockout over his opponent Michael Hess. Check out more info on his school Martinez BJJ at their website. Impressive stuff – along with an amazing match last weekend between Cat Zingano vs. Miesha Tate – what a fight! Anyone not wanting to see the female division in the UFC is missing out big time. Enjoy!

It’s a Boy!

For those who didn’t know my wife is expecting…

I’m soooo stoked! Still shocked over this since before Nicole became pregnant I had predicted we would have a girl. We were told that the baby is completely healthy as far as they can tell and weighs over 11 ounces right now (the average fetus at this point of development is around 8 ounces) so we’re expected a nice big boy

I asked the ultrasound technician if we are having a Terminator baby based on the bug eyes but she explained that the ultrasound viewer actually sees through skin (including the eyelids). Unfortunately, it looks like my child will not be an extra in the Humanoids From The Deep remake. I’m working on a couple things that I’ll be posting about soon – for the time being I’m relishing the fact that everything is going so well.

Duncan Trussell LIVE!!!

Thursday before the Asbury Park Comic Con, I had the great opportunity of seeing Duncan Trussell’s comedy set at Johnny Brenda’s on Frankford Avenue in Philadelphia. There were many Deathsquad fans there and I’m happy to say that Duncan didn’t disappoint. For those who don’t know, Duncan Trussell is an eclectic comedian who incorporates political, pagan, occult, and many other elements into his comedy act. He is a buddhist with an extremely interesting take on life and has starred in several different shows on Comedy Central, HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, among other great shows. He is also a regular contributor to the Joe Rogan Experience.
After the show on Thursday, Duncan took time to talk to almost everyone who came and I can tell you that he truly is a great person to take the time and care that he did. It’s not set yet, but I am supposed to be going onto his show however he is currently dealing with some family issues since his Mom is currently dying of cancer. Dying can be a pretty heavy subject for many folks but that is typically because of the amount of fear we put into the thought of no longer existing. In his last podcast, Duncan does a great job interviewing his mother and what she is going through. More importantly, when listening to his show, one can really feel the connection and love that lies between him and his mother. Asbury Park Comic Con

The Asbury Park Comic Con is coming this Saturday which will features numerous awesome artists including yours truly. Also, the lovely and talented Dre Grigoropol will be showing some of her works and art as well. We recently collaborated on a comic called Blueberry Boy of Asbury Park which relates some of our experiences from the last Asbury Park Comic Con last September. Here’s the cover along with a couple of pages from the comic.

Dre Grigoropol will also be premiering the third issue of her comic Dee’s Dream which incorporates many different elements from pop culture, indie bands as well as some of her own personal experiences. Her website is www.DreTime.org

First Fight 4 / Press4Kids / I am not graceful

I haven’t posted recently because I’ve been in overdrive getting First Fight 4 and I am super relieved to say that it will be off to the printers next week. Here’s is the final final cover along with a slight preview of some other work inside of it. As many people know, this issue leads up to my training experience at Balance Studios in Philadelphia and I am really excited to give a glimpse at some of the great people that I train with.

I recently did an illustration for Press4Kids as well which is an online publication available for the iPad and other devices. Melanie, the art director, did a great job and I hope to work with them again in the future.

Finally – I had a bit of an accident at my house in January which delayed things a bit in regards to getting work done. While messing with something in the attic of my house I basically pulled a Homer Simpson and well through the ceiling of my house and landed 14 feet below onto the stairs. I had a slight tear in my knee and a couple cuts but nothing is broken and I am extremely thankful for that. I really appreciate everyone’s concern over and am happy to say I am quickly recovering.

First Fight #4 in February!

That’s right – I will have this comic complete by February or die trying. Many folks I know and love will have to wait til February to hang out because I’m focusing everything on getting this done as soon as possible – here’s the final cover with some inside artwork from First Fight #4!

I’m currently scanning and lettering all of the finished artwork and really like how this issue turned out. Thank you to everyone who’s been patient in regarding to waiting for this comic to come out. I have several other things in the works right now that I will be doing later this year and I will be posting about them soon!

Also some freelance stuff/commissions that I’ve been doing as well – enjoy! Big things coming for 2o13!

First Fight 4 – Balance Studios – Matrix Fights

I’ve been doing a bunch of artwork for Balance Studios over the last year which I just haven’t had time to post. Balance Studios is located in Philadelphia and run by Phil Migliarese III and his brother, Rick. They are both black belts under Relson Gracie (a legend of the sport if you don’t know BJJ or MMA) and are also part of Matrix Fights which is a local fight company boasting some well known fighters like Wilson Reiss. First Fight #4 has taken me a while to finish but it will be out by the end of January and I can’t wait for everyone to check it out. I’m just inked up the cover for the issue and currently laying all the artwork out for it now.
